Kitting Workflow

MarketDirect Fulfillment products can be enable for kitting, which allows administrators to group individual Fulfillment products into a single kit product. For example, a Fulfillment warehouse may specialize in selling books, manuals, and manuscripts. Although, these item are sold as a single product to the buyer, they are stored in the warehouse as different products, or sub-components, such as a front cover, back cover, and pages. These sub-components are assembled into a Fulfillment kit product, like a manual, and shipped to the customer. When a buyer places an order for a Fulfillment kit product, they are purchasing a single product which is fulfilled like any other FF-Inventory product. This guide follows the administrative process of creating a Fulfillment kit product and tracking the assembly of it in the warehouse.

Kitting workflow

Important: The Default Shipping Method for Kitting Orders setting on the Print Shop page must be configured before administrators can assemble a kit product. This setting determines the delivery method dedicated to orders generated by MarketDirect StoreFront when a kit is requested for assembly. You can create a new delivery method such as Kit Assembly or choose an existing one.

Step 1-Create the sub-components in the kit.

Each sub-component in the Fulfillment kit product must be an FF-Inventory product type. Only the Information and Inventory tabs need to be completed for the sub-component to be associated with a Fulfillment kit product. If the sub-component is also available to buy as a stand-alone product, then each tab on the Product Information page must be completed.

Step 2-Create the Fulfillment kit product.

The Fulfillment kit product is an FF-Inventory product type with two exceptions:

The Enable Kitting toggle in the general settings header is selected.

Only FF-Inventory products with no existing inventory can be enabled for kitting.

Sub-components are associated to the Fulfillment kit product on the Kitting tab.

Kitting tab

The Kitting tab will appear after the Enable Kitting toggle is selected.

1 Click Associate Products to open the Select Product window.

2 Select the check-boxes next to the Fulfillment products you want to associate with the Fulfillment kit product.

All FF-Inventory products will appear in the Select Products table by default.

You can filter the table by using the Search, Sort, or Operator tools available for each column.

3 Enter the Required Quantity of each sub-component necessary to assemble the kit.

You can delete associated products, associate new products, and edit the Required Quantity of each sub-component until you receive inventory for the Fulfillment kit product.

4 Click Save.

Step 3-Request the Fulfillment kit product to be assembled.

Once the Fulfillment kit product is created, you must submit a request for kit assembly, release an order for the quantity of each sub-component, and pick the sub-components in the kit.

To submit a request for kit assembly:

1 Go to Administration > Kitting Products.

MarketDirect StoreFront pages can be assessed by Crtl+F on your keyboard to open the Menu List. You can either locate the page from the list or enter the page name into the search bar.

2 Locate the Fulfillment kit product you want to assemble in the Kitting Products table.

All Fulfillment kit products will appear in the Kitting Products table by default.

You can filter the table by using the Search, Sort, or Operator tools available for each column.

3 Click the check-box in the product row and enter the number of kits to assemble in the Quantity to be Created field.

The Producible Quantity column indicates the maximum number of kits products you can assemble based on the inventory of the sub-components in the kit.

4 Click Assemble.

To release an order for each sub-component:

MarketDirect StoreFront will automatically place an order for the sub-components within the kit based on the number of kits requested for assembly. For example, if you have a kit product with three sub-components requiring a quantity of one each to assemble the kit, then a request to assemble three kits will generate an order for three of each sub-component.

The generated order will be assigned the Default Shipping Method for Kitting Orders.

1 Go to Administration > Operator View.

2 Select the check-boxes for each sub-component in the Fulfillment kit product.

3 Click Release Line Item from the task menu.

Each sub-component must be released at the same time, or you will receive an error message.

To pick each sub-component from the warehouse:

1 Go to Administration > Pick View.

2 Select the check-box for the order of released sub-components.

3 Click Pick from the task menu.

Step 4-Assemble the Fulfillment kit product.

After the necessary quantity of each sub-component is picked from the warehouse, the Fulfillment kit products must be assembled.

1 Go to Administration > Kitting Assemble Status.

2 Locate the Fulfillment kit product to assemble in the Kitting Assemble Status table.

3 Click the row in the Assembled Qty column for that Fulfillment kit product.

4 Enter the number of assembled kits in the Assembled Qty field.

Kitting Assemble Status table

The Kitting Assemble Status table contains important information about not only the Fulfillment kit product, but also the assembly status of the kit.

SKU: Stock keeping unit for the kit product.
Order #: Number for the kit product order placed on the Kitting Products page.
Pick ID: ID for the pick workflow of the sub-components in the kit.
Ordered Qty: Number of kit products ordered from the Kitting Products page.
Assembled Qty: Number of kit products assembled in the warehouse.
Balance Qty: Number of kit products remaining to be assembled.

This number is only available if the kit order is completed in stages. For example, if ten kit products are ordered but only five are assembled, then the Balance Qty would be five kits.

Received Qty: Number of kit products received into inventory.

This number is only available if the kit is received in stages. For example, if ten kits products are ordered, five are assembled, and five are received into inventory, then the Received Qty would be five kits.

Operator: MarketDirect StoreFront operator responsible for cataloging the kit assembly information.
Status: The status of the kit assembly.

Assemble Requested occurs after the administrator places an order for a kit product.
Ready For Assemble occurs after the sub-components are picked for the kit product.
Partially Assembled occurs if the administrator enters a quantity less than the number of ordered kits into the Assembled Qty column.
Assemble Complete occurs when either the administrator enters the same quantity as the number of ordered kits into the Assembled Qty column or clicks the Complete button for a partial assembly.

Click Complete to mark a partially assembled order as finished.
Click Pick Slip to view and/or print the kit order picking / packing slip.
Select the View Assembled Completed Items toggle to see completed kit orders.

Step 5-Receive the assembled Fulfillment kit products into the warehouse.

1 Go to Administration > Inventory Receive.

2 Click Receive Assembled.

3 Locate the Fulfillment kit product in your MarketDirect StoreFront account using one of the following methods:

● Choose an option from the drop-down list and enter a search term into the Search field.

● Click the Search Assembled button to open the Find Product window where you can search for a Fulfillment product by filtering different columns or searching based on product information.

4 Enter the number of assembled kits you are receiving into the Cost (Each (1)) field and click the Add Skid icon.

The Receivable Qty field indicates the maximum number of kits you can receive for this Fulfillment kit product.

5 Choose a warehouse location for the assembled kits from the Location drop-down list.

6 Click Save Receive.

Kitting reports

Administrators can track and manage Fulfillment kit product inventory using kitting reports available on the Fulfillment Reports page.

Kitting Assemble PickSlip report: Enter the Fulfillment kit product Pick ID into the PickID field and click submit to view and/or print the kit order picking / packing slip.
Inventory Kitting Parts report: Enter the sub-component Item ID into the ProductId field and click submit to view product information and inventory data.

Multiple Item IDs can be entered into the ProductId field by placing a comma between each ID number.

Inventory Kitting report: Enter the Fulfillment kit product Item ID into the ProductId field and click submit to view product information and inventory data.

Multiple Item IDs can be entered into the ProductId field by placing a comma between each ID number.

De-kitting

De-kitting is the process of disassembling a kit to add inventory back into the kit sub-components.

1 Choose Dekitting from the Quick Access options in the Inventory table.

The Inventory table is available on either the Inventory tab of the Product Information page, or the Inventory Management page.

2 Enter the De-Kit Quantity and choose a warehouse location for each sub-component.

De-kitted sub-components will be placed on a new skid.

3 Enter any optional comments into the De-Kit Notes text-box.

4 Click De-Kit.
